A Focused Direction for the Crimson Minotaurs


Having taking a step back and had a look at the current state of my Space Marine Chapter I thought it might be prudent to take a look at a potential army list I could aim to move towards with what I can currently field. Starting this project it was never my intent to look for something competitive. It was first and foremost a modelling project where I would take on the miniatures I liked the look of and that was in keeping with the fluff I wanted to create. Having said that I would actually like to see them work on the table at some point too. So I have resolved to hit the right balance with a force that can hold it's own but still sticks to my original principles of creating a great looking army that fits it's background story materials well.



Thoughts Behind the List so Far


I have already decided to use Raven Guard chapter tactics in order to give my assault jump pack units a boost and I have a Chaplain and Chapter Master ready to step in and bolster these units further. They can either supplement their melee prowess or giving them increased survivability. The weight of fire power is going to come from my Adeptus Astartes Storm Wing providing much need punch from quite a survivable fire base. Until they come onto the table my troop choices will need a bit of protection so I have placed them in Razorbacks. Drop Pods are probably more effective but I don't want to field them for simple aesthetic reasons. I want to up both my Vanguard squad and Assault squad to 10 men for further bulk in jump packs. They will start, probably combat squaded, behind cover ready to take advantage of using jump packs in both movement phase and assault phase. My HQ units can join any one of these units. Lastly to fill out the points I added some landspeeders with dual flamers. These light vehicles can make use of the Raven guard scout move to really get up in the enemies faces with a respectable amount of fire power on turn one.

I am not sure what to place inside the Stormraven Gunship. I was thinking of perhaps dropping the jump packs on the Vanguard and placing them inside, for now I think it will just act as a support fire platform. Perhaps a tactical squad could use it for protection but that would not be making a great use of the assault ramp.

Let me know if there are any obvious improvements I can make. I still have committed to purchasing many models so there is a lot of room for flexibility here. I have never played Space Marines before so I have zero battlefield experience to inform the decisions I am making here!
